The Iron Entry Door Buying Guide

Everything to know before you choose an iron entry door — sizes, finishes, glass, tops, handing, efficiency, lead times, and cost.

An iron entry door is one of the highest-impact upgrades a home can make — the first thing anyone notices, every single day. Here's how the choices work, so you can pick with confidence.

Single vs. double doors — and sizes

We stock both single and double units. Common widths run 37″, 38″, 44″, 64″, and 74″, with 81″ and 98″ heights; sidelites and transoms extend the opening further. Single doors suit standard entries; doubles make a grand statement on a larger facade. If you're in new construction, frame the rough opening to a stocked size to keep cost and lead time down.

Finishes: Antique Bronze & Matte Black

Antique Bronze is warm and timeless — right at home on stone, brick, and traditional builds. Matte Black reads crisp and architectural for modern and transitional homes. Both are factory-applied and durable; normal aging over time is expected and part of the character of iron.

Glass: Clear & Flemish (privacy)

All glass is insulated Low-E. Choose Clear for maximum light and view, or Flemish — a textured "privacy" glass that softens the view into the entry while still passing light. On many styles the price is the same, so it comes down to how much privacy you want at the front door.

Top styles: square, eyebrow arch & full radius

Square top fits standard openings and modern lines. Eyebrow arch (a gentle segment curve) and full radius (a true rounded top) add classic, estate-style character — just make sure the rough opening is framed for the arch.

Handing (left vs. right)

Handing describes which way the door swings. Standing outside and facing the door: if the hinges are on the left it's left-hand (LH); on the right it's right-hand (RH). Handing isn't needed to quote, but we'll confirm it before an order so the door fits your opening and hardware.

Are iron entry doors energy efficient?

Yes. Frames and panels are fully insulated with polyurethane foam, glazed with insulated Low-E glass, and weather-stripped at the frame, glass frame, and sweep — so they look dramatic without sacrificing comfort or efficiency.

In-stock vs. made-to-order (lead times)

This is the big one for builders. Fully custom iron doors can carry lead times of several months. Our program is in stock: the same forged-iron look, delivered and installed in a fraction of the time. For a home on a schedule, that's the difference between "someday" and "this month."

Installation & warranty

Doors arrive pre-hung and pre-finished in a heavy-gauge frame. Our crew installs — level, plumb, sealed, and finished — so there's nothing to sub out. Every door is backed by a limited warranty: 2 years on structural and mechanical defects, 2 years on the insulated-glass seal, and 1 year on the factory finish.

How much do iron entry doors cost?

Cost depends on size, single vs. double, top style, glass, and any sidelites or transom. Because ours ship from stock, they're typically more affordable than custom made-to-order iron — and there's no long-lead-time premium. Tell us the size and configuration and we'll send an exact quote and availability, no obligation.
